Spring 2014 Orchid Ensemble Tour - Midwest Concerts, choir collaboration, residency activities in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin March 15th - April 7th
Date: TBC - 8pm Orchid Ensemble In Concert co-presented with the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre Presenting an eclectic program of both new and past commissions from Canadian composers, as well as unique interpretation of traditional Chinese music. These pieces represent the wide range of styles in the ensemble’s repertoire, displaying the maturity of an ensemble of 15 years. Although in diverse styles, together these pieces demonstrate a contrasting nature that is the fundamental character of all forms of Chinese arts: yin and yang, the two principals in the universal process of transformation. The concept of yin and yang captures the image of a multifaceted ensemble that continues to transform and renew itself, and give inspiration for this repertoire:

Date: May 9-11, 2014 Sound of Dragon, a festival that re-defines "Chinese music" Co-produced by the Orchid Ensemble, the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, and the Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society Co-presented with the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre A 3-day festival of music rooted in or inspired by Chinese traditions in diverse styles: Chinese traditional and contemporary, fusion, world, New Music, experimental and electroacoustic, showcasing the talents of Vancouver "Chinese music community" and national/international guests.
